Cool new vending machines…

The picture above is VW’s new car storage system. It claims to take 20% less room than traditional car storage, cost less, and cars are retrieved faster and safer.

Also, Macy’s is also choosing Zoom Systems to start vending things like iPods in their stores.

So my first project at ABC.com has launched! If you haven’t heard about it, ABC is offering 4 hit ABC shows online for free (with limited ads)! The 4 shows are LOST, Deparate Housewives, Alias, and Commander in Chief.

I am proud to be a part of the revolution to change the way people watch TV shows…forever. Could this be the beginning of the end of television?… Go see for yourself.

The iPod cannot be updated…

Posted by Ely on May 1st, 2006

Ok, I’ve been getting “Ely’s iPod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.” error messages when I try to sync up my photos on my iPod. I tried searching around the web for solutions, but I couldn’t find any. After some poking around, I fixed it! And seeing other people out there are having the same problem, I am going to share the solution. Hopfully this post bubbles up in Google so people can find it.

Anyway, the solution is…just delete all of the photos on your iPod. And re-sync it. I am guessing the some data file got corrupted so it was not able to add new photos. If you don’t know how to delete the photos on your iPod, just un-check the “Synchronize photos from…” option and it will ask you if you want to delete all the photos on your iPod.

Hope this helps.

WHAT A GAME!

Posted by Ely on April 30th, 2006

WOW! WHAT A GAME!!! Today’s Lakers game is definitely one of the most emotional games of the season. There were a few times I thought the Lakers were going to fold up and crumble. But they didn’t, they fought through it all. There was no quit in them at all today. They were determined to WIN!

It was a total team effort. Kobe wasn’t even the leading scorer in the game (Lamar was). If Devean didn’t hit some of the crucial threes, Lakers would’ve lost. If Lamar didn’t force a couple 3 point plays, Lakers would’ve lost. If Smush didn’t hit the big 3 at the end of regulation AND steal the ball from Nash, Lakers would’ve lost. I am not saying Kobe wasn’t influencial in the game. He still was. He hit the shot to send them into overtime and the shot that won the game.

Lakers have changed so much since the beginning of the season. I am so happy for them.

  • Lamar is definitely emerging as a second scoring threat on the Lakers. Lamar can be just as deadly as Kobe on the offensive side. He is a tremendous finisher around the hoop, so he gets a lot of “and 1″ plays. He’s also a great rebounder and defender. Good passer as well. He is worthy of playing along side Kobe.
  • Smush’s confidence is growing everyday. He has grown so much. He went from playing in the NBDL to starting for the Lakers. He’ll be one of the better point guards in the league soon.
  • Sasha has grown a lot too. He is really gaining confidence on what he can do on the court. He is finally believing is his shot now.
  • Kwame is another success story. His rebounding has helped tremendously. His activity around the hoop is commendable.
  • What happened to Luke? He became a scorer overnight. Now that Luke is willing (and capable) of scoring, he’s game is much much more well-rounded.
  • Cookie benefited a lot from the generous playing time he got earlier in the season. He is a much more confident scorer now.

I seem to mention confidence a lot. Confidence is very important in basketball (in real life as well). Everybody in the NBA is physically gifted. It is the mental aspect that separates the best from the better.

I am very excited to see what the Lakers can do in the rest of the playoffs. Am I crazy to think they can go all the way? ;) Regardless how far we go, I am happy with the Laker’s progress. I think next season, we’ll see more players go through the transformation. The likely candidates are this year’s rookie: Bynum and Turiaf. I think those two can be solid contributers to the team next year.

O ya, on a side note, I rode my bike on the trainer while I watched the game today. What a great way to get some biking in! I biked for 2+ hours, netting 25 miles and used up 1200 calories.

Ok, enough blabbing. Adios and GOOOOOOOOOO LAKERS!.

Another MEGA update…

Posted by Ely on April 27th, 2006

Sorry I haven’t blogged in close to 2 weeks. If you didn’t know, I was on a 11 day Europe trip to London and Amsterdam. Let’s talk about my trip first.

My trip was quite awsome! For the first 3 days, I stayed with my friend, Robert. We were quite efficient. Since he knew the way around town, we were able to cover a lot of stuff. Next 2 days, I stayed with my parents in a 4 star Mariott. It was much different than the 5 people/4 bedroom flat that my friend stayed in. The Mariott was a pretty good deal. The only downside is that it takes about 20 minutes with the tube to get to central London. Canary Wharf (where the Mariott was at) was not a totally dead place either. There are shopping centers and bars around there too. The next 3 days I went to Amsterdam by myself. I figured 10 days in London would be too boring. I am glad I went. Amsterdam is a GREAT city to visit. Beautiful buildings and canals. Van Gogh museum (over 200 Van Gogh paintings)! Great people (that speaks English too). And the city is extremely liberal (weeds and prostitution are legal). I highly recommend people to visit Amsterdam. London is a great place too, expensive city though.

As far as training goes, I haven’t swam, biked, or jogged in 2 weeks. I did do A LOT of walking during my trip though. I guess that counts. I lost like 3 pounds on that trip. I think my legs were actually injured from all the walking. My ankle and IT band started complaining in Amsterdam. My feet was in pain as well. Man, I am getting old.

About work, we are pretty busy nowadays. We are launching free TV streaming on Monday. It is done for the most part. We are mostly tweaking it and tying up the loose-ends. It’s kind of scary. I’ve never worked on something SO high profile before. I have faith in us though. WE CAN DO IT!

Hmmm, what else… Well, I am getting sleepy now, so I’ll end it here. Good night, ladies and gents. ELY OUT!

I signed up!

Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen…LIVE! IN PERSON!

Posted by Ely on April 10th, 2006

Lightning McQueen...LIVE!
Sally Carrera...LIVE!
Most of the managers at ABC.com have an office with a window facing the studio. So this morning they saw the cars from the upcoming Cars movie unload into the parking lot. During lunch, we walked by it and took some pictures. Pretty cool, huh? Both Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera are real cars. Lightning sounds like a real race car! And Sally is based off a REAL Porsche. I can’t wait for the movie to come out. It’s gonna be AWSOME!

Lakers’ future…

Posted by Ely on April 9th, 2006

Although Lakers are barely fighting for a playoff spot right now, I think Lakers has a bright future. Here are the players I think will be pretty good in 2 years or so…

  • Lamar Odom - He shouldn’t really be on this list since he’s already pretty good. I think he can be a consistent 20/15 guy and really step up as a legit second threat on the team. He is too fast for most PFs and too big for most SFs. He’s got great hands as well.
  • Kwame Brown - He’s teasing us with his athletic talent again. There’s really no one that can match up against him once he learns how to use his body. He’s WAY too fast for any of the centers in the league. He reminds me of an young shaq, minus all the post moves. I think he can be a solid 15/10 guy.
  • Smush Parker - He’s another guy with good athletism. He is FAST. Give him a year or 2 to develop into another Tony Parker. He should be able to contribute 15 points on a nightly bases as well.
  • Ronnie Turiaf - Another great athlete! I’d love to see him and Kwame start together eventually. He just needs more experience. He’s like a Mark Madsen with more physical gifts. ;)
  • Andrew Bynum - All this talk about future Laker stars and I haven’t even talked about Bynum! :) This kid is another player has a great body that needs more experience. He also has the fire that is evident in all of the superstars. He can end up as crappy as “The Candy Man” or as great as Jabbar. Only time will tell… ;)

You see what I mean now? Lakers have a lot of good young talent and money too (once Brian Grant clear the book). Watch out NBA! Lakers will be back!!!
